same lunch different day

I was about to eat my lunch, the lunch that is now the same everyday, and I realized how lucky I am. I like my lunch and I am able to have lunch...
nothing to complain about.

lunch bag series: Monkey Boxing

Friend, colleague, artist and writer of a music review blog, that is my friend T. I handed him a lunch bag months ago. He came up with the goods quickly and the bag art was terrific. The food? Hot pork balls and noodles. Real hot, for our drawn hero, who thinks he's all that, and probably is...check out his reviews.
T. has an uncanny ability to show up for a chat just when I need it. We work on a project together but separately (if that makes sense). I'm sure he would agree that it occasionally feels as if we are participating in an experiment: put us monkeys in a room with a typewriter (with all the time in the world) in the hopes we will eventually produce a new way of teaching Shakespeare. But we are both full of ideas and always hope that this project will allow us to experiment. T, lunch is on me soon.

lunch bag series: my friend B.

I have asked my friends to take a lunch bag and create any image they want on it. Then they tell me what food should go in it...
This lovely piece has been created by my friend B. She is an artist who works part time as a Food Technology teacher... I'm having trouble writing about B. as I know that any short written description will not do her justice. Let's just say that she is wonderful, artistic, funny, caring and I love working with her. Unlike most people, who would think such a project a weird time waster, B fulfilled the request with a true piece of art. More than I could have hoped for.
B requested that the bag be filled with hummus, boiled egg, bread sticks and kiwi. Which of course is not what you see here. Two weeks ago, I organised the meal. I bought the hummus (I don't really like my own made) and instead of bread sticks, I made melba toast out of a sourdough loaf. On the day I cut kiwi flowers and took in an egg to boil, as B likes them soft. B was having a full-on day after having a full-on couple of weeks, so lunch was on me. It was lovely, as it usually is when we sit down and take a break. But I decided not to photograph the meal.
B, you are cool and I'm truly glad I know ya!

lunch this week

The focus on lunch has intensified this week. Sunday I taught the girl how to make welsh cakes. We shaped them as smiley stars to pack in her school lunches. She enjoyed that. Being conscious that the nanny state I live in would not approve of such things, I made the cakes with wholemeal flour.
Used my new tiffin today. In the top a creamy coconut curry with lentils, butternut squash, sweet potato, etc. In the bottom some sushi rice and eggs with vegetables for garnish. More fun making it than eating.
