how to wear an old chef's jacket

I found out from a previous experience that if I throw out my chef's jacket, I'll need it. By this I mean I'll end up back on the Line calling out orders in a steak house somewhere. No amount of waxing nostalgic with Hell's Kitchen is going to make me really go back to that sort of life: 60 hours + a week, split shifts, Saturday nights followed by Sunday Morning all you can eat, you see where I'm going with this...
Anyway, I didn't throw out this jacket. What I did do was wash it with a bright yellow duster by accident, turning it to a lovely colour of pee. No amount of washing got rid of the colour. I decided to tie dye it. The dying got rid of the yellow, even in the man-made fibre thread stuff. I dyed the chef's buttons in purple. It turned out much better than I could ever hope.
I wear it now for practicals. The kids like it, they know I'm serious about the process. As a parting gift from the wonderful textiles teacher (covering for maternity leave last year), she machined on the Miss M.
Just thought I'd share...
