Dear all
As a colleague at work said, "January is a Cruel Mistress" and as this is a positive place, I haven't had much to say. I haven't been cooking. Which isn't good.
It's been all about the job and 'teaching'. Not Food Technology so much this year but instead two new experimental projects. These projects have taken over my life. Along with the 9 month old Mamma's Boy. He's turning out to be a bit like a Tasmanian devil. Lovely though he is (and my god I do love him), he is a lot of work. All of which leaves me little time or thought for my hobbies and interests.
But enough of explaining myself as if it's important to y'all. What about the pictures? Well, they are evidence of a very enjoyable practical lesson with year 11's. I need to provide ingredients for some of them and they pay me back. It was such a challenging week I decided to treat myself. So S. got to make a 'chocolate Bakewell'
The base is a chocolate shortbread
125 grams plain flour
25 g cocoa powder
100 g block margarine (he was only paying £2's so no butter)
50 g caster sugar

The middle is chocolate spread

the cake topping
2 medium eggs
100 grams block margarine
100 grams caster sugar
75 grams self raising flour
25 grams of cocoa powder

and drizzled on the top is a melted bar of white chocolate.

Yes, it was excessive but it energized the group and made that particular pupil the centre of attention (and we all need that from time to time, me...all the time) and quite frankly they were damn good on a dreary January Friday. And we all deserved it.

Hi, I love your blog! Your recipes are great!

I thought you or your other fans might be interested in this competition I stumbled upon at the supermarket yesterday for budding food writers.

There's even a £20,000 book contract up for grabs!
I know I can't resist it!
